You don’t need to go fancy to get some melt-in-the-mouth Kabobs, a favorite new ethnic food.
Desi, a grocery and kabob shop in Bellewood Commons along East Market Street in Leesburg specializes in traditional kabobs, tandoori, curry dishes, chicken tikka and biryani creating a spectacular blend of South Asian flavor and tastes.
Upon entering the store, you will immediately feel its authenticity and smell the aroma of fragrant spices in the rows of shelves filled with canned goods, boxed mixes, bottled spices and other products some of which are used to create the dishes that are offered for carry-out.
Order any of their various chicken, beef, lamb or fish Kabobs or their Tandoori Chicken marinated in spices, herbs and yogurt grilled on low heat. If you prefer your chicken to be boneless, get the Chicken Tikka instead. Desi also offers a variety of rice dishes like the Chicken Biryani, rice pilaf layered with chicken and potatoes.
Side dishes include Chana Masala which is spicy chick peas, Raita, the yogurt sauce or dip to soften the ‘kick’ of the spicy foods and of course, the essential Naan – the warm, flat round bread rolled out with ghee or butter. Curry sauce makes a delicious naan dip!
